About Us

My name is Michelle and I am the proud mummy to two little superstars, Charlie and Sophia.

I am a secondary school Spanish teacher, currently on a career break from teaching. Before going into teaching I had worked in retail management for a large Irish retail company for 6 years. I spent 3 years working for the company in Spain and was involved in a number of store openings there. I returned to Ireland and worked in the buying offices for the same company in Dublin for a period.
I love matching my kids or having them matching each other but I found the options available limited. I have always loved having a super soft, good quality sweatshirt and so the idea for Superstar Sweaters came about. I wanted the prints to be suitable for adults and children and I wanted the colours to be fun and bright. I also wanted the sweatshirt to promote a positive message, ‘You are a superstar’.

I began setting up this company almost a year ago and named it after my daughter, Sophia. Sophia has had a challenging start to life and at 3 years of age, she has gone through more than most of us will ever go through. She was born with an upper limb difference meaning her left hand never developed. I began referring to her as a superstar at a young age as she amazed us. She reached milestones and did everything and more with her little hand. I had no idea last year when choosing the company name what lay ahead for Sophia. On the 18th of May, at just 2 years and 10 months old, our world was turned upside down when our superstar was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic Lukeamia. We are currently in the middle of an intense period of chemotherapy but we are totally in awe of our daughter. She has done so well and continues to amaze us daily and smiles through the toughest days. Superstar is an understatement.

I will donate 5% of annual sales to Aoibheanns Pink Tie, a wonderful charity that supports families who receive the devastating diagnosis of childhood cancer. The work they do is truly amazing.
